Come Home to Chicago Where It ALL Began
Be a Part of ALDA's History
In 1987 a small group of people came together for the purpose of socializing with other late-deafened adults. The concept of ALDA came together a few months later in 1988. In 1989 ALDA held our first Leadership Workshop, later to be called ALDAcon, in Mercy Hospital in Chicago using CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) for the very first time. By 1990, for ALDAcon II, ALDA became the first organization to provide both CART and interpreters at every workshop. In 1992, Marylyn Howe founder of ALDA-Boston, organized the first Karaoke Night and ALDA has remained a leader in communication access and outstanding entertainment for national conventions ever since. ALDAcon 2008 celebrates the 20th Anniversary of ALDA with the biggest party ever seen and you have the opportunity to be part of ALDA's history. ALDAcon 2008 is an event not to be missed.
Workshops and Exhibits
ALDAcon features workshops for everyone on a wide variety of subjects relating to hearing loss. Topics include advocacy, technology, coping skills and others just for fun. Meal functions provide time for speakers as well socializing and entertainment while the social highlight of the conference is Saturday night's Karaoke party! Exhibits by a variety of vendors and organizations provide information on the latest in deaf-related technology and programs.
